OUR HISTORY

A Legacy of Service in New Orleans

For more than 30 years, Brotherhood, Incorporated has remained committed to addressing economic, social, and health disparities in New Orleans through education, enlightenment, and empowerment. 

1994
Founded in New Orleans
Founded by Mark E. Johnson in response to the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on African American communities.
1996
Incorporated
Brotherhood officially incorporated, strengthening its ability to serve its communities.

A Lasting Legacy
Brotherhood lost founder and longtime Executive Director Mark E. Johnson, whose commitment to service continues to inspire its work.
Today
Continuing the Mission
Under Executive Director Donnisha Patterson-Hayes, Brotherhood expands health, housing, and community support services.

Founder & Former Executive Director

A Legacy of Service Since 1994

Founded in 1994 by Mark E. Johnson, Brotherhood, Incorporated was established to address the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on African American communities in New Orleans.

Through his leadership, Brotherhood became a trusted source of prevention, education, housing support, and advocacy for underserved communities.

Although he passed away on May 29, 2022, his commitment to education, enlightenment, and empowerment continues to guide Brotherhood's mission today.
